DNC Chair Slams Trump’s Executive Order to Attack Mail-In Voting

Today, in yet another assault on voting rights, Donald Trump signed an executive order to undermine mail-in voting. The order purports to require the Department of Homeland Security and Social Security Administration to overstep their authority and unilaterally create a list of voters the Trump administration deems eligible, despite federal laws that empower states to oversee rolls of eligible voters. In turn, the order directs the U.S. Postal Service not to deliver mail ballots to voters who are not on this preapproved list, but the President can no more decide which ballots will be delivered to voters than he can block the delivery of particular Social Security checks or tax refunds.

Attacking mail-in voting is an affront to all Americans’ constitutional rights, especially working families, seniors, Americans with disabilities, and members of the military who rely on mail-in voting to make their voices heard.

A reminder: Donald Trump just voted by mail in last week’s Florida special election, where Democrat Emily Gregory flipped Florida House District 87, Donald Trump’s home district that he won by 11 points in 2024.

In response, DNC Chair Ken Martin released the following statement:

“We know exactly why Donald Trump is trying to cheat: he’s terrified to lose big this November as voters reject his toxic politics that are raising their costs and ripping away their health care. Trump’s relentless assault on mail-in voting is un-American and harms all of us, especially seniors and our servicemembers who rely on mail-in voting to vote. The DNC won’t stand idly by as Donald Trump rips up our Constitution – we will keep fighting to ensure every eligible voter has their vote counted.”
