DNC Chair Statement on Election Night 2015

Washington, DC— DNC Chair Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz released the following statement on Election Night 2015:

“Tonight we want to offer our congratulations to Kentucky Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes, Kentucky Attorney General-elect Andy Beshear, Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hood and other Democrats who won across the country in a challenging year based on their commitment to fighting for hardworking families in their states. In particular, I congratulate mayors and mayor-elects nationwide on their strong victories, including Buddy Dyer in Orlando, Jim Kenney in Philadelphia, Joe Hogsett in Indianapolis and Jennifer Roberts in Charlotte.

“I'm also thrilled that all three Pennsylvania Supreme Court seats have been won by the Democratic candidates, giving Democrats the majority of the court. I was thrilled to join Kevin Dougherty, David Wecht, and Christine Donahue in Pittsburgh last month and know they will do a remarkable job protecting the rights of Pennsylvanians, particularly ensuring a fair redistricting process.

“In Ohio, a Democrat-backed redistricting measure won by an overwhelming margin – an important victory towards ensuring a fairer redistricting process in a critical swing state.

“As we look ahead, just over one year away from the 2016 election, we can be sure of one thing: we will hold Republicans running for president accountable every day between now and November 2016 for threatening to dismantle the great work President Obama and Democrats have done over the last 7 years, and threatening to take us back to a time when the economy was in turmoil and we were losing an average of 750,000 jobs a month.

“Congratulations to all Democrats tonight for hard fought races, and your commitment to moving our country forward.”
