DNC Chair Statement on Hajj and Eid Al-Adha
September 12, 2016
WASHINGTON – DNC Interim Chair Donna Brazile released the following statement on Hajj and Eid Al-Adha:
“Today, Muslim Americans are among the more than 1.5 million Muslims gathering to complete their pilgrimage to Mecca, and among more than a billion Muslims worldwide celebrating Eid Al-Adha. Also known as the Feast of Sacrifice, this holiday is a time of prayer, community, celebration and service to the poor.
“Here in the United States, where 3.3 million Americans practice Islam, today is also an opportunity for non-Muslims to recognize the many contributions of our Muslim friends and neighbors. The Democratic Party continues to stand for diversity, inclusivity, and freedom of religion. At a time when we have seen a rise in divisive political rhetoric aimed at Muslim Americans and people of the Islamic faith worldwide, it’s especially important to defend every American’s constitutionally protected freedom of religion, and to welcome people of all faiths into our country and our communities.
“We wish Muslims everywhere a safe, peaceful and blessed Eid Al-Adha. Eid Mubarak!”
