DNC Chair Statement on John McCain’s Divisive Rhetoric
June 16, 2016
WASHINGTON – DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz issued the following statement on Sen. John McCain’s assertion that President Obama is “directly responsible” for the attacks in Orlando:
“During the 2008 campaign, Sen. John McCain was quick to deny or dismiss the false, inflammatory and racist insinuations that some in his party aimed at then-Senator Barack Obama. Eight years later, the political courage that once earned McCain accolades and admiration from both sides of the aisle is nowhere to be found. By falling in line behind his party’s presumptive nominee and parroting Trump’s revolting insinuation that President Obama had something to do with the Orlando attacks, Sen. McCain has sent a clear signal: the Republican Party is Donald Trump’s party. McCain’s Trump-inspired rhetoric is further proof that we must elect Democrats up and down the ballot this November.”
