WASHINGTON, D.C. – DNC Chair Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz issued the following statement on the mayoral race in Houston:
 
“I congratulate Democratic State Representative Sylvester Turner for his hard-earned victory tonight to become the next Mayor of Houston. The issues he ran on – universal access to health care, affordable electric rates for seniors, and a quality education for all – resonated with the hardworking people of Houston, who wanted their city to move forward not backwards. As I have said before, Sylvester Turner is the right person for the job, and so, I am fully confident that he will continue fighting to make sure that Houstonians have safer neighborhoods, stronger schools, and better infrastructure.”
