DNC Chair Statement on Recovery Efforts in Louisiana
August 17, 2016
WASHINGTON —DNC Interim Chair Donna Brazile issued the following statement:
“My heart goes out to the people of my home state of Louisiana, especially those who have lost loved ones or have been displaced from their homes. I understand all too well just how devastating natural disasters like this can be. Like so many others, every member of my family was displaced by Hurricane Katrina in 2005 – most of them lost everything they owned. But in the storm’s aftermath, the resilience, courage and fortitude of those affected along with federal aid and the generosity of private citizens brought Louisiana roaring back to life.
“It’s time now to do it again.
“I applaud President Obama for approving Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards’ request for federal emergency funds, which will greatly assist the recovery effort. And I believe we must continue to elect leaders who understand the critical role that government plays in mitigating the damage done by the worst natural disasters, wherever they occur.
“If you want to help those affected by the flooding, please consider donating to the Salvation Army or the American Red Cross, or local charities like Project 70805, YMCA AC Lewis, or the EBR Council on Aging.”
