DNC Chair Statement on Today’s Jobs Report
December 4, 2015
WASHINGTON—DNC Chair Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz released the following statement in response to November's jobs report that showed 211,000 new jobs created, and the unemployment rate holding at 5 percent:
“November's strong jobs report is further proof that the hard work being done by President Obama and Congressional Democrats to rebuild the economy from the Great Recession is paying off. There is no denying that 69 straight months of private-sector job growth – the longest stretch on record– is progress that American workers and families can count on. We still have a lot of work to do to strengthen middle-class and working families, but it’s clear that the economy has undergone a remarkable turnaround from where we were seven years ago.
“These strong job growth numbers also expose how clueless the Republican presidential candidates sound when they talk about the economy. In their conservative fantasyland, the last month of the Bush administration when we lost nearly 800,000 jobs were the good old days, and we need more budget-busting tax cuts for the rich to take us back there.
“Americans don’t want to go back to the Bush economy. They want a forward-looking president who will build on the progress we’ve already made and who will ensure that we have an economy that works for everyone – not just the wealthy few.”
