DNC Chair Statement on Whole Woman’s Health v. Hellerstedt
March 2, 2016
WASHINGTON – DNC Chair Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz released the following statement on today’s Supreme Court hearing of Whole Woman’s Health v. Hellerstedt:
“Across the country, we are seeing clinics close and a woman’s right to a safe and legal abortion restricted by Republican lawmakers trying to score political points with the most extreme factions of their base. The vast majority of Americans support a woman’s right to choose and more importantly, Roe v. Wade has guaranteed that right. The excessive and restrictive regulations being imposed by the State of Texas in this case are already forcing women to have to drive for hours or even to Mexico to exercise their rights, putting their health and safety at risk. The voters should send a strong message at the local, state and national level this November by supporting candidates who will adhere to the Constitution and protect a woman’s right to choose. A woman’s health care decisions are between her and her doctor and shouldn’t be subjected to interference by any politician.”
