DNC Chair Tom Perez On May Jobs Report
June 1, 2018
After the U.S. Department of Labor released the latest jobs and unemployment numbers, DNC Chair and former Labor Secretary Tom Perez released the following statement:
“With each passing month, the Trump administration continues to build an economy focused on rewarding wealthy corporations at the expense of working families. Thanks to President Trump’s reckless policies, health care premiums are skyrocketing, gas and prescription drug prices are up, and wage growth remains slow. And if you want to know just how anti-worker this president is, look no further than his relentless attacks on organized labor, which has long been the backbone of the middle class. Just last week, Trump issued an executive order that will hurt millions of workers and their families by attacking federal unions. Meanwhile, Trump and Republicans in Congress continue to cater to big corporations and the top 1% with massive tax cuts that have made CEOs richer while doing little for everyday workers.
“Trump and Republicans in Congress are trying to build a winner-take-all economy that enriches their wealthy friends and saddles working families with the bill. Democrats want to build an economy that works for everyone. We support unions and teachers organizing for the better wages and benefits they deserve. And we will continue to put American workers first every step of the way.”
