DNC Chair Tom Perez released the following statement on the passing of Antonio Gonzalez, President of the Southwest Voter Registration Education Project and the William C. Velasquez Institute:

“Latino communities across the country have lost one of our fiercest fighters in Antonio Gonzalez. Antonio dedicated his life to breaking down barriers and empowering communities to exercise their constitutional rights at the ballot box. Whether it was standing up to anti-immigrant policies or championing protections for our environment and our children’s future, Antonio was never afraid to fight for the values he believed in. Our hearts are with his family, friends, and colleagues at this difficult time.”
