DNC Chair Tom Perez, Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto, NV Dems Chair William McCurdy, and Latina Activists Slam Trump’s Broken Promises, Strategize for 2020

‘Viva Las Vegas Cafecito con Politics!’ Discussion Focuses on Mobilizing Latina Voters, Highlighting Trump’s Failed Record

Ahead of yesterday’s debate in Las Vegas, Democratic National Committee Chair Tom Perez, U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto, and Nevada State Democratic Party Chair William McCurdy II joined local elected officials and Latina community leaders for a ‘Viva Las Vegas Cafecito con Politics!’ discussion at Casa Don Juan.

The event was hosted by the DNC’s ¡Mujeres Mobilize! program, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, and the Nevada State Democratic Party. Participants discussed Trump’s broken promises on health care and a range of other issues, as well as Democrats’ efforts to mobilize the Latina vote in 2020.

After the event, participants issued the following statements:

DNC Chair Tom Perez

“Donald Trump’s broken promises have been an unmitigated disaster for Latinas in Nevada and across the country. That’s why we’re seeing unprecedented energy ahead of Saturday’s caucuses. It’s why this community is mobilizing like never before. And it’s why we’re going to make Trump a one-term president in November.”

U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto

“Trump is saying one thing, but he’s doing just the opposite. He’s threatening protections for preexisting conditions, and he’s trying to cut spending for  Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security programs. We’re going to turn out and vote him out of office because we’re telling people that we are here and that we are fighting for our families and our communities.”

Nevada State Democratic Party Chair William McCurdy II

“When Latina Nevadans organize, mobilize, and vote, Democrats don’t just win elections–we smash glass ceilings, win long-lasting change, and build a more just future for everyone. That’s what happened in 2018, and it’s how we’re going to hold Donald Trump accountable for his failed legacy of broken promises.”

UnidosUS Action Fund President and CEO Janet Murguía

“We’re here together — united, unidos — because we understand that in that unity there is strength, and in that strength there is power. Our voice and our vote matters, and that’s what’s going to make the difference in this election.”
