DNC Congratulates Full Slate of Democratic Candidates in Virginia, Touts Democratic Enthusiasm Ahead of Critical Elections This Fall
June 18, 2025
Today, the DNC congratulates Democratic gubernatorial nominee Abigail Spanberger, lieutenant gubernatorial nominee Ghazala Hashmi, nominee for attorney general Jay Jones, and Democratic candidates up and down the ballot.
Election season has only just begun and already, Democratic enthusiasm in Virginia has reached historic levels: For the first time in years, Democrats have fielded candidates in all 100 House districts — including deep-red districts — and during early voting this year, voter turnout surged, jumping by 65,000 more votes than in 2021. From candidates running to ballots cast, Democrats are mobilizing ahead of critical general elections.
Following the results of Virginia primary elections, DNC Chair Ken Martin released the following statement:
“Congratulations to Virginia Democratic candidates up and down the ballot. Ahead of November, the DNC will be a constant partner in the campaign to flip the Governor’s Mansion and maintain a Democratic majority in the Virginia House of Delegates. For too long, Virginians have put up with state executives who have done nothing but rubber stamp harmful, extremist policies. Now more than ever, Virginians need leaders who will stand up to Donald Trump’s chaotic firings and cost-hiking agenda — and that’s exactly what Abigail Spanberger, Ghazala Hashmi, and Jay Jones will do. Following record Democratic turnout, Virginians have already sent a message to the nation that voters are ready for change. They’ll do it again this November as they hold Donald Trump and his party accountable and elect Democratic leaders who will fight for working families up and down the ballot.”
