DNC launches digital home-page takeover of Scranton Times-Tribune ahead of Trump’s visit to the area
August 20, 2020
Ahead of President Trump’s trip to the Scranton area today, on the final day of the Democratic National Convention, the Democratic National Committee is launching a homepage takeover of the Scranton Times-Tribune’s website, highlighting the Trump administration’s failure in responding to the ongoing pandemic that has contributed to a spike in coronavirus cases across Pennsylvania. The Times-Tribune is the largest newspaper covering Lackawanna County, home of Scranton and Old Forge, where Trump will be today.
Additionally, on Thursday morning, the Pennsylvania Democratic Party will host a press call with U.S. Senator Bob Casey, Scranton Mayor Paige Gebhardt Cognetti, and local Pennsylvanians discussing how the Trump administration’s broken promises have impacted families in the region. Thanks to the Trump administration’s failed coronavirus response, nearly 7,600 Pennsylvanians have died due to complications from COVID, including over 200 in Lackawanna County. This week, the DNC’s War Room also released a new ad highlighting how Trump’s return to holding in-person events like today’s in Pennsylvania has put additional American lives in danger.
“Nothing Trump says today can change how his failure to respond to coronavirus has cost too many Pennsylvanians their jobs and lives,” said DNC Spokesman Will Baskin-Gerwitz. “His event today will probably showcase him doing what he always does: passing responsibility, making excuses and making things up. If Trump wants to understand how much damage he’s done to working families, and why Pennsylvania voters will be backing Joe Biden, we encourage him to watch tonight’s Democratic National Convention.”
The DNC’s ads utilize the largest advertising space on the Times-Tribune’s homepage and will run for 24 hours. Images of the ads are below:
