DNC Chair Tom Perez released the following statement after the United States surpassed 150,000 deaths from the COVID-19 pandemic:

“150,000 people have lost their lives. 150,000 of our fellow Americans are gone because of this president’s failure to lead. And what is Trump focused on? Making up stories about being invited to throw out the first pitch at Yankee Stadium and promoting conspiracy theories and junk science from a discredited doctor. There is no limit to the pettiness and petulance of this president. Just when you think he has hit rock bottom, he keeps on digging – all while the American people continue to suffer from his incompetence.

“Instead of following the science and taking bold action to end this pandemic, Trump is too busy attacking our nation’s foremost experts on infectious disease. Instead of providing relief, Trump and Republicans want to cut benefits for unemployment, jeopardize food security, and abandon Americans facing eviction. The American people have had more than enough of this president and the Republican Party’s disastrous leadership.

“Joe Biden will honor the memory of the lives we’ve lost by bringing an end to this pandemic. He will rebuild our economy, repair the soul of our nation, and restore courage and integrity to the Oval Office.”
