DNC Hispanic Media Director Enrique Gutiérrez released the following statement in response to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agency firing tear gas at migrants, including children, in the latest escalation of the Trump-made humanitarian crisis:

“The Trump administration has demonstrated it’ll go to new lows to implement its  anti-immigrant agenda – from separating innocent children from their families to firing tear gas at asylum seekers at the border. This can’t be who we are as a nation. We must reject the president’s baseless lies in his attempt to criminalize and dehumanize asylum-seeking families. We must adhere to the generations-old American ideals of welcoming immigrants and offering an opportunity for everyone to succeed. Democrats will hold this administration accountable for its attacks on human rights.”
