DNC on Connecticut Health Insurance Rate Hikes After GOP Sabotage
July 23, 2018
DNC Northeast Press Secretary Elizabeth Renda released the following statement following reports that Connecticut’s health insurers plan to raise premium rates by double digits for ACA plans in 2019:
“Time and time again, Donald Trump and his Republican cronies in Congress have sabotaged and attacked the American health care system, and now, Connecticut families are being left with the bill for their partisan games. Due in large part to continuing uncertainty over health care policy actions from the federal government and Trump administration sabotage, Connecticut’s health insurers are seeking to raise premium rates by double digits next year for ACA plans, with insurance companies requesting an average rate increase of 12.3%. The Trump administration and the Republican Party should be ashamed that their partisan-fueled attacks on the Affordable Care Act are responsible for making it harder for working Connecticut families to access the health care they deserve.
“Meanwhile, Connecticut’s Republican candidates for governor like Tim Herbst and David Stemerman doubled down on their decision to give Trump an ‘A’ grade in the face of the hefty premium increases by reaffirming their support for the president over the weekend. It’s time for Trump and Republicans to stop playing games with Americans’ health care and start joining Democrats in working to make health care accessible to every family. Quality, affordable health care should be a right for all Americans, not a privilege for the wealthy few.”
