DNC on Connecticut Republican Party’s Convention

DNC Northeast Press Secretary Elizabeth Renda released the following statement on today's Connecticut GOP Convention, where the state Republican Party voted to endorse Mark Boughton for governor:

“If one thing is clear from today's nominating convention, it's that Connecticut Republicans would rather fight for special interests and the misplaced priorities of the Trump administration than hardworking Connecticut families. Time and again, each of Connecticut's Republican candidates for governor has demonstrated that when it comes to issues from health care to workers’ rights to women's reproductive rights, they have Donald Trump's back, not Connecticut's.

“Look no further than Mark Boughton, who the Connecticut GOP endorsed today. Boughton is against a woman's right to make decisions about her own body with her doctor. He wants to take away collective bargaining for Connecticut workers. He's refused to take a stand on defending the sweeping gun violence prevention legislation passed after Sandy Hook in 2013.

“Connecticut voters deserve leaders who will fight for them, not Trump administration puppets controlled by special interests and giant corporations. Come November, Connecticut will send a clear message about politicians like Mark Boughton who are too afraid to stand up to Trump and his Republican cronies to fight for Connecticut values.”
