DNC on Equal Pay Day

DNC Chair Jaime Harrison and DNC Women’s Caucus Chair Lottie Shackelford issued the following joint statement on Equal Pay Day:

It is unacceptable that, in 2022, women do not earn equal pay to men. Black, Indigenous, and Latina women in particular face the biggest pay gaps. Our economy — our country — suffers when these women are shortchanged.

While we have come a long way in the fight for equal pay, today, on Equal Pay Day, we acknowledge that we have yet to reach parity. We acknowledge as well the uneven economic impact the pandemic has had on women in the workplace.

As President Biden, Vice President Harris, and the Democratic Party continue to lead the United States to record job growth and an historic economic recovery, we will also fight to ensure that the recovery is equitable. The President’s Gender Policy Council will continue to prioritize equity for women workers.

The Democratic Party is proud to have long championed equal pay for equal work and, under the leadership of President Biden and Vice President Harris, we will not waver from our commitment.”
