Last night, a federal district judge issued a preliminary injunction suspending an extreme Texas law that outlaws abortions as early as six weeks, before many people know they are pregnant. In response, DNC Chair Jaime Harrison issued the following statement:

“The federal court’s ruling makes clear what the Supreme Court declined to: S.B. 8 is a shameful, extreme law that should never have gone into effect in the first place. While this is a critical step forward in ensuring the freedom to decide is restored to Texans whose lives have been thrown into uncertainty by this extreme measure, the fight is far from over.  

“This moment has shown us that this is a fight that is not just limited to the state of Texas. The freedom to decide is under attack by Republican lawmakers all across the country. That is why President Biden and Democrats are fully committed to codifying Roe v. Wade immediately and ensuring reproductive freedom for all. Make no mistake: Reproductive rights will be on the ballot.”
