DNC on Illinois Democratic Primaries

DNC Midwest Press Secretary Mandy McClure released the following statement after the Illinois Democratic primaries:

“Congratulations to Illinois Democrats for showing what we can accomplish when we organize and lead with our values. Last night, voters across the state showed up at the ballot box to reject the divisive Republican agenda that prioritizes special interests ahead of hardworking families. More than 1.2 million people voted in the Democratic primary, almost double the number who voted in the Republican primary and a 25 percent increase over 2010. Illinois voters are ready to elect more Democrats because they want leaders who will stand up for them and their values, not for Donald Trump’s agenda to take health care away from millions of Americans and give another massive windfall to corporations at the expense of working families.

“What’s happening in Illinois is part of a national trend. Democrats are focused on issues like health care and expanding our economy, and it’s clear that voters trust Democrats to lead on the issues that matter most to our communities. The momentum is undeniable for Democratic candidates running up and down the ballot, and we will keep fighting for working families and winning elections everywhere in November and beyond.”
