“Generations of people have come to America in search of a better future for themselves and their families. They’ve crossed oceans and fled oppression; they’ve escaped crime, war, and poverty to start a new life in the land of opportunity. Democrats know that immigrants make our nation stronger each and every day. In fact, right this minute, countless immigrants across the country are risking their lives to keep our country safe – in hospitals and grocery stores, at nursing homes and in our nation’s uniform. And yet, this president and the Republican Party have targeted immigrant communities time and again, most recently using them as a scapegoat for the president’s own failure of leadership during this crisis.
“This election is a time for us to stand with our immigrant and refugee colleagues, friends, families, and neighbors as they fight back against a president who attacks immigrants at every turn. Democrats know that the best way to honor the contributions immigrants have made to our country is by standing with and fighting for the Dreamers and immigrant youth who are Americans in every way except on paper; the parents who would face mortal danger just to give their children a better life here; and the refugees who see our nation as a shining beacon of freedom and hope. Democrats believe diversity and compassion are our nation’s greatest strengths. We know that prejudice is not patriotism, and discrimination is not a national security strategy. And in November, we will put an end to Trump’s cruelty once and for all.”
