DNC on Indigenous People’s Day

DNC Chair Tom Perez and DNC Native Caucus Chair Rion Ramirez released the following statement on Indigenous People’s Day:

“Today and every day, we celebrate the immense contributions and culture of the Native community. We, the people, are making a conscious decision to celebrate the Indigenous Peoples of America instead of those who inflicted harm against them. As we take a moment to reflect on the centuries of oppression and cruelty against Native communities, it’s critical that we elect leaders like Joe Biden and Kamala Harris who will treat our tribal nations with dignity and support their sovereignty and prosperity. While we can never fully right the wrongs of our history or undo its suffering, we can always strive to be better. Democrats believe in equality, inclusion, and opportunity, and that’s why we are spending today celebrating over 570 Federally Recognized Tribes.”
