DNC on International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples

DNC Chair Jaime Harrison and DNC Native Caucus Chair Rion Ramirez released the following statement on International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples:

“I am proud to stand with Native American Communities as we today commemorate International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples. The resilience of the Native American community in the face of centuries of unjust policies inspires us all each day to continue fighting for the equality that is one of America’s founding principles.

“President Biden and Democrats have demonstrated that cooperating with and supporting Tribal nations is a top priority. The president’s historic Bipartisan Infrastructure Deal specifically allocates large investments in tribal broadband, clean solutions for transportation, water and power infrastructure. The American Rescue Plan also invested hundreds of millions of dollars into Native American schools and pandemic recovery efforts. We are committed to not only ensuring that Tribal rights are upheld, but also that each community has what it needs to thrive.

“Democrats know indigenous peoples are a critical part of the coalition that keeps our party and our country strong, and we celebrate their immense contributions today and every day.”
