DNC on Kushner Under FBI Scrutiny

In response to news that Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law and senior advisor, is currently under FBI scrutiny for his contacts with Russia, DNC deputy communications director Adrienne Watson released the following statement:

“The FBI’s Russia investigation reached Trump’s backyard, and now it’s in his house.  Kushner’s security clearance should be suspended until the FBI’s findings are complete.”

Three things to know about Kushner and Russia:

1.      Kushner backed firing Comey while he was under scrutiny by the FBI.  Kushner was closely involved in orchestrating Trump’s firing of FBI Director James Comey in an attempt to stifle the Russian investigation. We now know that Kushner himself has become a focus of that investigation.

2.     Kushner lied on his security clearance application by omitting meetings with Russian officials. Kushner and Michael Flynn met with Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak during the transition, and Kushner also took a meeting with the CEO of a U.S.-sanctioned, Russian state-owned bank with close ties to the Kremlin’s spy network.  Kushner did not disclose either meeting on the security clearance forms he filled out before taking his post in the White House.

3.     Kushner and Ivanka Trump have close ties to two Russian oligarchs close to Vladimir Putin.  They are close friends with the wife of Roman Abramovich, a close Putin ally who reportedly gave the Russian president a $35 million yacht as a gift. They are also close to the “right hand man” of Lev Leviev, a longtime friend of Putin dating back to the 1990s who was also involved in a major real estate deal with Kushner in 2015.
