DNC on Michigan Primary Results

DNC Chair Tom Perez released the following statement after Michigan’s Democratic primary election:

“Congratulations to Michigan Democrats on a successful primary election. I’m extremely excited by the unprecedented number of women running and winning across the country, and Michigan is no exception. Tonight, voters made clear they want leaders who will fight for the issues that keep them up at night, and they know that Democrats have their back and share their values.

“The Republican nominee for governor, Bill Schuette, has been in lock-step with Donald Trump’s agenda to jeopardize people’s access to health care and help the rich and wealthy corporations at the expense of the middle class. Michiganders deserve better leadership in Lansing. And tonight, Democrats nominated candidates across the state who are ready to fight for access to affordable health care and better jobs for working families. The choice is clear, and we look forward to electing Democrats up and down the ticket come November.

“Furthermore, at a time when access to affordable health care is under attack across the country, we look forward to electing Gretchen Whitmer as the next governor of Michigan. As Senate minority leader, she successfully negotiated Medicaid expansion in the state despite Republican opposition, expanding health care to more than 600,000 Michiganders. Her commitment to tackling hard problems will serve her well in the governor’s mansion.”
