DNC on Mississippi Governor Signing Six-Week Abortion Ban

DNC Women’s Media Director Elizabeth Renda released the following statement after Republican Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant signed a six-week abortion ban into law today:

“Mississippi’s unconstitutional six-week abortion ban is a direct attack on a woman’s right to make decisions about her own body with her doctor. Mississippi is only one of more than a dozen states that have introduced legislation banning abortion after six weeks this year. Today, Mississippi Republicans become the latest example of how the Trump administration’s extremist, anti-woman policies have emboldened anti-choice legislators across the country. With Brett Kavanaugh on the Supreme Court and Donald Trump in the White House, Republicans will continue to push unconstitutional bills just like this as part of a larger effort to ban abortion nationwide. This bill, which bans abortion before many women even know they are pregnant, would put women’s lives at risk by barring their access to safe, legal abortion. While Republicans continue to play partisan games with women’s access to health care, Democrats will keep fighting against their ceaseless attacks and leading for women nationwide.”
