DNC on New Hampshire and Connecticut Special Election Victories
February 28, 2018
DNC Chair Tom Perez released the following statement on the results of today’s special elections in New Hampshire and Connecticut, where Democrats flipped two state legislative seats. Democrats have now flipped a total of 39 legislative seats from red to blue since Donald Trump took office:
“Congratulations to Representatives-elect Philip Spagnuolo and Phil Young on their respective victories in New Hampshire and Connecticut in tonight’s special elections, which flipped another two Republican-held seats. Democrats have now flipped 39 legislative seats from red to blue since Donald Trump was elected. We’re organizing, investing, and winning elections in red districts across the country as voters reject Donald Trump and the Republican agenda.
“The voters in New Hampshire’s Belknap County District 3 elected Philip because of his commitment to fighting for the issues that matter to Laconia, like fighting the opioid crisis and building an economy that works for everyone. And the voters in Connecticut’s 120th House District elected Phil because of his commitment to fight for the issues that matter to Hartford like protecting the environment.
“The victories of our Democratic candidates in these red districts tonight are proof that when Democrats lead with our values and organize early, we can win anywhere. The DNC is proud to stand with Philip Spagnuolo and Phil Young, and we look forward to continuing our work with the New Hampshire Democratic Party and the Connecticut Democratic Party to elect Democrats up and down the ticket in 2018, 2020, and beyond.”
