DNC on Oklahoma Primary Election
June 27, 2018
DNC Chair Tom Perez released the following statement after Oklahoma Democrats voted in their primary election:
“Congratulations to all of last night’s Democratic nominees and the Oklahoma Democratic Party on a successful primary. The incredible voter turnout in this election is proof that Oklahoma voters are tired of Gov. Fallin’s business as usual and are ready for Democratic leaders to fight for their values. Our new slate of nominees includes a record number of first-time candidates, women, and teachers running to unseat Republican lawmakers who voted against higher teacher pay and desperately-needed investments in public education.
“Now Oklahoma voters will have the chance to change the direction of their state’s leadership in November. Drew Edmondson and Anastasia Pittman know that every child deserves a high-quality public education and all teachers deserve fair pay, unlike Gov. Fallin, who has spent her time in office cutting funds for schools, supplies, and wages while passing massive tax giveaways for big corporations. While Republicans compete in a race to the bottom to carry on Gov. Fallin’s disastrous, ultra-conservative legacy, Democrats are working to solve the issues that working families in Oklahoma care about, like investing in our public schools, expanding access to health care, and growing opportunities for local economies.
“Oklahoma voters know that Democrats have their backs and share their values. And they’re ready to keep organizing in every ZIP code and elect Democrats up and down the ballot in 2018.”
