DNC Chair Tom Perez released the following statement on the passing of former Maryland House Speaker Mike Busch, the longest serving House speaker in state history:

“Maryland has lost a true public servant in Mike Busch. Whether it was fighting for better wages and health care, standing up for LGBTQ rights, or working to protect our environment and expand access to quality education, Iron Mike devoted his life to helping others, and he has left his state a better place.

“He was the glue that held the legislature together, and the scores of legislators he mentored will carry on his incredible legacy. My thoughts are with his family and all Marylanders at this difficult time. Rest in peace, Coach.”
