DNC on Passing of Former NALEO President and Congressman Ed Pastor
November 29, 2018
DNC Chair Tom Perez released the following statement on the passing of Ed Pastor, Arizona’s first Hispanic congressman and former president of the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials:
“I was deeply saddened to hear of Representative Pastor’s passing. Ed was a true public servant and a dyed-in-the-wool Democrat. He spent his life fighting tirelessly for his community and all the people of Arizona. And as the first Hispanic congressman in his state, he paved the way for future leaders like me because he understood that our leaders should reflect the diversity of our nation.
“Whether it was fighting for the rights of immigrant families or the health care of hardworking Americans, Ed always put people first. He was warm, kind, endlessly hopeful, and never afraid to stand up for what was right. Democrats are grateful for his leadership, his love of service, and the profound example he set for future generations. My thoughts and prayers are with Ed’s family and friends as they mourn their loss.”
