DNC on Rhode Island Primary Elections
September 13, 2018
DNC Chair Tom Perez issued the following statement on the results of tonight’s Democratic primary races in Rhode Island:
“Congratulations to Democratic gubernatorial nominee Governor Gina Raimondo, Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, and all of the Democratic candidates who won today’s primary races in Rhode Island. I’m confident that Rhode Island is ready to organize in communities to elect Democrats across the state, and I know this exciting slate of candidates will work tirelessly for the Ocean State’s working families when they take office.
“Rhode Island voters know that Democrats have their backs — a stark contrast to the state’s Republican candidates. Republican gubernatorial nominee Allan Fung has proven time and again that he would not stand up to the Trump administration to defend Rhode Island values or protect Rhode Islanders’ health care. But while Republicans like Fung are embracing Trump’s disastrous policies that hurt middle class families, Democrats will fight to raise wages, invest in infrastructure and education, and expand access to affordable health care for all — not just a privileged few.
“Rhode Island voters share our values, and that’s why they will elect Democrats up and down the ticket this November. The DNC was proud to invest $100,000 in the Rhode Island Democratic Party to support organizing efforts in communities across the Ocean State, and we look forward to continuing to partner with Rhode Island Democrats as we march together toward victory in 2018.”
