DNC on RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel’s Refusal to Disavow Rep. Pat Meehan
January 24, 2018
In an interview with CNN, RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel refused to condemn Pennsylvania Congressman Patrick Meehan for using thousands of taxpayer dollars to pay a settlement to a former aide who accused him of sexual harassment. DNC spokesperson Elizabeth Renda issued the following statement in response:
“After watching the RNC happily write checks to fund an alleged child molester’s run for the United States Senate, it should come as no surprise that their chairwoman is refusing to withdraw support for a lawmaker accused of sexual harassment. But Ronna McDaniel’s continued support of Patrick Meehan, the hypocritical Pennsylvania congressman and now-former House Ethics Committee member who claimed to be a leader in the fight against sexual misconduct, is beyond the pale. Today, even after Meehan personally confirmed both the allegations of sexual harassment against him and his use of thousands of taxpayer dollars to secretly settle the sexual harassment lawsuit from his former staffer, McDaniel repeatedly refused to condemn the congressman. It’s time for McDaniel and the RNC to put principle over party and formally withdraw their support of Meehan after his reprehensible behavior and use of taxpayer money as his personal sexual misconduct slush fund.”
