DNC Chair Tom Perez released the following statement on the results of the special election in Arizona’s 8^th Congressional District:

“The people of Arizona’s 8^th Congressional District have spoken. I want to congratulate Dr. Hiral Tiperneni on winning the Democratic primary today and becoming the first Indian American woman to win the Democratic nomination for Congress in Arizona. Come April 24th, Arizonans in the 8th have a clear choice between her Republican opponent, who, like disgraced former Rep. Trent Franks,  will be another rubber stamp for Paul Ryan’s attacks on Arizona families, or Dr. Tiperneni, a leader who will fight to protect health care and be an advocate for hardworking Arizonans. The people of Arizona deserve someone who will represent their interests, and Dr. Tiperneni will have the full support of the Democratic National Committee to help her get there.”
