DNC Chair Tom Perez released the following statement on Stacey Abrams’ historic campaign:

“Every step of the way, every time she was told the odds were stacked against her, Stacey Abrams refused to back down. She inspired voters across the state with a powerful vision and a positive message of unity, inclusion, and opportunity. She’s a fighter for an economy that works for everyone, not just the fortunate few. She’s a fighter who believes in fully funding public education every year, not just when there’s an election. She’s a fighter who believes in expanding Medicaid to give nearly half a million Georgians access to care. But most importantly, she embodies everything the Democratic Party stands for, and our future will be bright because of her continued leadership.

“There’s no question that Stacey’s opponent, Brian Kemp, and Georgia Republicans launched a years-long unprecedented voter suppression campaign that denied voters of their constitutional rights. Voting machines malfunctioned, voter rolls were purged, and people stood in line for hours just to cast their ballots. But through it all, Democrats never quit. And we never will – because in the Georgia that Stacey Abrams represents, no one is unseen, no one is unheard, and no one is uninspired.”
