Today, DNC Chair Jaime Harrison released the following statement in response to news that Texas Democratic state lawmakers will break quorum in defense of voting rights in Texas and block further consideration of anti-voter bills HB 3 and SB 1:

“Texas Democratic state lawmakers are once again standing up for millions as they continue their relentless fight to protect all Texans’ fundamental right to vote.

“The bills being pushed by Republican lawmakers in Texas are beyond the pale. If passed, they would criminalize critical pieces of the election process, and disproportionately silence voters of color.

“I am inspired by these brave lawmakers. They are demonstrating that they will put everything on the line to fight for our democracy and our precious right to vote. The DNC will not relent and will continue fighting back against Republicans’ outrageous efforts to prevent citizens across the country from making their voices heard at the ballot box.”
