In Texas, Republican Governor Greg Abbott just signed into law an extreme bill that would outlaw abortions after around six weeks — which is before many people know they are pregnant. In response, DNC Deputy Communications Director Ofirah Yheskel issued the following statement: 

“Republican lawmakers in Texas and around the country should be focused on helping Americans who have spent the last 14 months dealing with the health and economic effects of the pandemic, rather than passing extreme legislation to limit access to the health care that their constituents depend on.

“As Democrats, we will continue to fight against these extreme bills and work to make sure everyone has the health care they need, including abortion care.”
