DNC on the 11th Anniversary of DACA

DNC Chair Jaime Harrison released the following statement on the 11th anniversary of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program being announced:

“Today, we celebrate the 11th anniversary of the DACA program that extended the opportunity of the American Dream to hundreds of thousands of young immigrants, known as Dreamers, in the United States. Whether they are our neighborhood small business owners, teachers, or health care workers, Dreamers are part of the backbone of communities in every corner of the country.

“We are proud of the Biden-Harris administration for taking swift action on their first day in office, by issuing an executive order that strengthened DACA and protected Dreamers. Despite this progress, Dreamers still face uncertainty about whether or not they will be able to stay in the only country they know as home.

“In the years since DACA was issued, Democrats have been steadfast in our commitment to passing comprehensive immigration reforms that would modernize our outdated immigration system and grant a pathway to citizenship for Dreamers. It is time for Congress to pass a permanent solution that builds off of the success of DACA and creates a pathway to citizenship for the Dreamers who continue to make countless contributions to our country.”
