DNC on the 8th Anniversary of DACA
June 15, 2020
DNC Chair Tom Perez released the following statement on the 8th anniversary of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program being announced:
“For eight years, DACA has allowed hundreds of thousands of hardworking people to come out of the shadows and contribute to the only country they call home. DACA recipients are vital members of our communities. They’re our friends and neighbors, our classmates and co-workers. They deserve a government and a president that respects their humanity and treats them with dignity. And Democrats are proud to stand side by side with the immigrant youth, allies, and activists who are fighting every day for their rights.
“Unfortunately Dreamers are still facing the uncertainty and fear of what the future holds. Donald Trump has steamrolled Dreamers with his hateful anti-immigrant agenda, and has fought all the way to the Supreme Court to end DACA. We will not forget Trump’s violence or vitriol against immigrants. We will not forget his betrayal of our nation’s values. And that’s why in November we must defeat Donald Trump and elect Joe Biden as the next president of the United States.”
