DNC on the Passing of Former New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson

DNC Chair Jaime Harrison and DNC Native Caucus Chair Clara Pratte released the following joint statement on the passing of former Congressman, Ambassador, Secretary of Energy, and New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson:

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of former New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson. As a former governor, congressman, ambassador, cabinet secretary, and chair of the 2004 Democratic National Convention, Richardson’s love for his country and dedication to serving the American people knew no bounds. Whether it was fighting for New Mexicans, Tribal rights, or fighting for American values on the world stage, our country has been well served by his leadership and love for our nation.

“As a testament of his unrelenting commitment to public service, Richardson was recently nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize for his work securing the return of Americans wrongfully detained abroad. Bill Richardson’s passion for public service will be sorely missed, but his legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of the American people he strived to serve every day. We extend our deepest condolences to Bill Richardson’s family and loved ones as they mourn the loss of their father, husband, and friend.”
