DNC on Trump Administration’s Proposed Domestic Gag Rule for Title X Funding

DNC Spokesperson Elizabeth Renda released the following statement following new reports on the Trump administration considering implementing a domestic gag rule to eliminate Title X funding, which provides grants for family planning programs, for health care providers who provide abortions or even information or referrals for abortions to their patients:

“The Trump administration’s proposed plans to eliminate Title X funding for health care providers like Planned Parenthood who provide vital reproductive care and information to their patients are shameful and dangerous. The proposed changes are nothing short of a domestic gag rule, which would eliminate critical funds for health care providers unless they agree to never even talk to patients about or provide any information on abortion. It is unconscionable that a doctor’s ability to speak freely with patients about their health care is threatened, and this proposed rule is just the latest Trump administration attack on access to health care in America.

“If enacted, this rule would kneecap Title X – a program 4 million Americans each year rely on for affordable birth control and reproductive health care – threatening the health of millions of women and their families across the country. From day one, the Trump administration has attempted to chip away at women’s basic rights and freedoms by pushing policies that would kick millions of Americans off their health care, eliminate protections for sexual assault survivors, and strip women of their ability to make decisions about their own bodies with their doctors. Women are the core of the Democratic Party, and Democrats will never stop fighting against this administration’s attacks on their access to health care.”
