DNC on Trump Administration’s Reversal of ACA Contraceptive Mandate
October 6, 2017
In response to the Trump administration’s callous decision to undo the ACA requirement that insurers provide coverage for accessible contraception at no cost, DNC CEO Jess O’Connell released the following statement:
“President Trump doesn’t belong in the Oval Office and he certainly doesn’t belong in the doctor’s office. This is 2017, not 1917. It is outrageous that Trump is taking us back to a time when women had no voice in our public policy debate.
“These are basic human rights, not political pawns on a chessboard. Access to contraception with no out-of-pocket costs is an economic necessity that has saved women billions of dollars, and over two-thirds of Americans support guaranteed, no-cost contraceptive coverage.
“Today’s action just further shows that Trump is out of touch with American values. I won’t stand for this. Women across the country won’t stand for this. And Democrats won’t stand for this. All Americans should be able to make decisions about their health with their doctors, not their employer, and we will never stop fighting to ensure that contraceptive care remains affordable and accessible.”
