In response to President Trump’s announced plan to change asylum rules for immigrants, DNC spokesperson Daniel Wessel released the following statement:

“Trump’s remarks this afternoon were propaganda, not policy. Once more, Donald Trump is using division and fearmongering to distract from the fact that his agenda has not helped working families. What Trump did today was belittle the lives of those seeking asylum in the U.S. and promote more lies and outlandish conspiracy theories about immigrants.

“The American people can see right through his reality TV theatrics. Voters know that Democrats have their backs and are fighting for the issues that keep them up at night: access to affordable health care, quality education, good-paying jobs, retirement security, and equal rights for all.

“The president can try to scare voters, but he will not succeed in silencing them on Election Day when they vote for Democrats up and down the ballot all across the country.”
