DNC on U.S. Passing 400,000 COVID-19 Deaths
January 19, 2021
DNC Chair Tom Perez released the following statement after the United States reached 400,000 COVID-19 deaths:
“An American dies of COVID-19 nearly every 20 seconds. More than 4,000 in a single day. And now, more than 400,000 in the last year. The pain of this pandemic is immeasurable. Every day, families are shattered, small businesses shut their doors, and hospitals are filled to capacity. Instead of fighting this pandemic, the president decided to incite a violent insurrection of mostly maskless supporters at the U.S. Capitol, and Republican lawmakers put their Democratic colleagues in danger by refusing to wear masks as they huddled for safety. We need new leadership in America. And tomorrow, we’re going to get it as Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are inaugurated as president and vice president of the United States. They will move swiftly to end this pandemic, bring relief to those in need, and build our economy and our country back better.”
