DNC on Women’s History Month

DNC Chair Tom Perez and DNC Women’s Caucus Chair Lottie Shackelford released the following statement recognizing Women’s History Month:

“With a record number of women serving in Congress and the speaker’s gavel back in Nancy Pelosi’s hands, we have plenty to celebrate this Women’s History Month. After the 2016 election, millions of women across the country marched and organized. They ran for office, knocked on doors, made phone calls, and told the Trump administration ‘enough is enough.’

“Donald Trump, Republicans in Congress, and their conservative allies have continued to attack women’s rights at every turn. Earlier this month, Justice Brett Kavanaugh launched his war against Roe v. Wade. And just last week, the Trump administration finalized its Title X gag rule, which could devastate millions of women and their families who rely on the program for affordable birth control, cancer screenings, and other basic health care services.

“Despite the constant attacks, Democrats are still fighting to protect reproductive rights because we believe that women have a constitutional right to make their own decisions about their bodies. We’re fighting to elect more women to public office because we believe our leaders should represent the diversity of our people. We’re fighting for equal pay and better wages because we believe that when women succeed, America succeeds. And we’re fighting to make sure that every time we observe Women’s History Month, we’ll be able to celebrate even more victories for justice and equality.”
