DNC on Yom HaShoah
April 21, 2020
DNC Chair Tom Perez released the following statement on Yom HaShoah, honoring the six million Jews who perished in the Holocaust:
“On Yom HaShoah, we remember the six million Jews who perished in the Holocaust. And we honor the millions more who survived the War and have been the custodians of memory of Nazi terror.
“The indelible admonitions of Yom HaShoah are ‘never forget’ and ‘never again.’ These words will be spoken at official ceremonies and community gatherings marking this solemn day, which are being conducted virtually this year around the globe. And they serve as an urgent reminder to stand up to all who employ pernicious lies to scapegoat entire communities. This year, while millions of Americans have met the challenges of the coronavirus pandemic with courage and compassion, a small minority has instead resorted to repugnant, age-old anti-Semitic tropes in an effort to blame Jews for the pandemic.
“Democrats know that anti-Semitism and bigotry of any form have no place in our democracy. We know that prejudice is not patriotism, and that discrimination is not a public health strategy. And we must unite as Americans and as global citizens to condemn all those who are exploiting this crisis to push an agenda of hate against the Jewish people and other communities. In doing so, we fulfill the solemn responsibility of ‘never forget’ and ‘never again’ on Yom HaShoah.”
