DNC Statement Ahead of Glenn Youngkin’s Trip to California

Ahead of Glenn Youngkin’s trip to California, DNC spokesperson Rhyan Lake released the following statement:

“Glenn Youngkin can’t name a single policy difference between himself and Trump – and he’s got the extreme record to prove it. From pushing an extreme abortion ban and cozying up to the GOP’s most notorious election deniers, to championing tax breaks for the ultra-wealthy and big corporations – Youngkin is hellbent on taking his MAGA agenda nationwide.”

Youngkin endorsed an extreme abortion ban that threatens doctors with jail time for attempting to provide reproductive care.

DC News Now: “Gov. Glenn Youngkin said he was ‘frustrated’ with state Democrats after a swift rejection Thursday of his proposed 15-week ban on abortion.”

Politico: “[Youngkin] has repeatedly pledged to sign a 15-week abortion ban with exceptions for rape, incest and the life of the mother should one ever make it to his desk. In December, he also proposed banning the state’s Medicaid program from covering abortion in cases of ‘incapacitating’ fetal deformities. Yet conservatives in the state are eager to go further.”

WRIC: “Under the legislation filed by Byron, physicians who perform or attempt to perform abortions after that threshold would face a Class 4 felony that carries a sentence of up to 10 years and a possible $100,000 fine.”

Youngkin can’t seem to stop campaigning, endorsing, and befriending notorious election deniers – and even a January 6  attendee.

Washington Post: “Del. John J. McGuire III (R-Goochland), a prominent surrogate for Youngkin who often introduces him at events, defended ‘election integrity’ as an important issue.”

Washington Post: “McGuire — who also acknowledged publicly for the first time in an interview Tuesday that he had attended the Jan. 6 rally, but did not enter the building — noted that many polling places showed Trump up early in the evening before abruptly shifting for Biden. ‘Republicans were leading everywhere, and then all of sudden, [Democrats] were way ahead,’ he said.”

Washington Post: “[Youngkin] avoided acknowledging Biden’s legitimacy until after winning the primary, and avoided saying whether he would have voted to certify the electoral college vote if he were in Congress … Now, as Youngkin has met with donors considering a presidential bid, he’s campaigning with gubernatorial candidates who have unabashedly run on Trump’s election lies, such as Kari Lake in Arizona and Tudor Dixon in Michigan.”

CNN: “Glenn Youngkin defends support of election denier Kari Lake in Arizona”

New York Times Opinion: “In Nevada last week, Youngkin stumped for Joe Lombardo, the Trump-backed Republican nominee for governor who… says he is worried about the ‘sanctity of the voting system.’ In Michigan, Youngkin stumped for Tudor Dixon, the Trump-backed Republican nominee for governor…”

Youngkin put forth a budget plan that gifts the ultra-wealthy and big corporations massive tax handouts at the expense of Virginia’s working families.

Richmond Times-Dispatch: “Youngkin seeks additional $1 billion in individual, corporate tax cuts”

Richmond Times-Dispatch: “The governor’s new tax plan would lower the top individual income tax rate from 5.75% to 5.5%, despite a recent state study that recommended moving in the opposite direction to make the state’s income tax system fairer to Virginians who pay a higher share of their income in taxes than the wealthiest taxpayer.”

Despite being spoon fed the opportunity multiple times in one interview, Youngkin REFUSED to name a single policy difference with GOP front runner Donald Trump and instead praised his extreme MAGA agenda.

Politico: “As for former president Donald Trump, who will surely in due course have cutting words for Youngkin if the Virginian decides to compete for the Republican nomination, ‘I think there were many things that Donald Trump progressed on a policy standpoint that were extremely good.’”
