DNC Statement Ahead of GOP’s First MAGA Cattle Call
November 18, 2022
2024 GOP contenders are headed to Las Vegas for their first major cattle call today. Ahead of the Republican Jewish Coalition’s fall conference, DNC spokesperson Ammar Moussa released the following statement:
“We know exactly what to expect from Republicans’ first cattle call: a race to the bottom to see who can out-MAGA each other. Make no mistake — whether it’s Trump, or any other Republican, this party is united around an extreme MAGA agenda of banning abortion, boosting election deniers and gutting Social Security and Medicare — and this weekend is just the opening salvo to a messy, chaotic primary.”
Here’s a reminder of the extreme records of the MAGA Republicans gathered in Vegas this weekend:
Earlier this week, Mike Pence quadrupled down on his extreme, anti-choice record and bragged about his role in overturning Roe v. Wade. Not to be outdone, he hit the campaign trail for at least five election deniers this cycle.
Mike Pence: “Now let me just say, it was the greatest honor of my life to serve as vice president with President Donald Trump.”
Mike Pence: “I always believed Roe v. Wade would be overturned — I just didn’t know if it would be overturned in my lifetime. But thanks to three Supreme Court justices confirmed by [the Trump-Pence administration], the American people have been given a new beginning for life.”
Washington Post: “Last week, Pence appeared in Phoenix to endorse Senate candidate Blake Masters of Arizona.”
RJC will feature Florida GOP Governor Ron DeSantis, who in 2022 signed an extreme abortion ban into law that forced a child incest victim to leave the state in order to access care and campaigned for election deniers like Kari Lake and Doug Mastriano.

Meanwhile, South Carolina GOP Senator Tim Scott has been RADIO SILENT about just how far he would go to restrict reproductive rights despite speaking at a closed-door gala hosted by Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America — an extreme organization that calls to “end abortion” in America.
Ted Cruz has actually gone on the record saying that he supports policies that would force a woman to carry their rapist’s child to term.

Nikki Haley said she only campaigned with people who acknowledged the 2020 election result and yet literally stumped for Don Bolduc, a known election denier who said that “Trump won the election, and damn it, I stand by my oath.”
Associated Press: “During a debate in August, Bolduc was clear: ‘I signed a letter with 120 other generals and admirals, saying that Trump won the election, and damn it, I stand by my oath.’”
Not to be outdone, New Hampshire GOP Governor Chris Sununu signed New Hampshire’s first modern abortion ban with no exceptions for rape or incest. Sununu bearhugged election-denying Don Bolduc.
New Hampshire Bulletin: “New Hampshire’s law does not make exceptions for rape or incest, and it carries criminal and civil penalties for physicians who violate it.”
And Trump’s former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo wants to ban abortion nationwide and has supported bans with no exceptions for rape or incest.
Associated Press: “Pompeo, who was swept into office in the November 2010 conservative tide that took the House, told The Associated Press that he would not support any other exception that would permit abortions, even in cases where the mother had been raped.”
Mike Pompeo: “While we would like to see abortion illegal nationwide, that likely won’t happen in the near term. Instead, we should take a two-pronged approach: 1) restrict abortion as much as possible in each state, and 2) work to create a society that makes abortion obsolete.”
The extreme clown show gathered at RJC this weekend makes clear that Republicans are in a messy race to the bottom to see who can claim the MAGA mantle in 2024 — and it’s only just beginning.
