DNC Statement on 18th Anniversary of Olmstead Decision

Following the announcements that the Boeing facility Trump toured now plans to lay off workers, and theCarrier plant that Trump visited will ship jobs overseas to Mexico, DNC spokesperson Daniel Wessel released the following statement:

“Democrats understand what Trump does not: Americans workers need a real jobs plan that makes true investments in job growth and strengthens our economy. While Trump searches for his next headline, Democrats will continue to stand by American workers and fight to create more good-paying jobs right here in America.

“Trump is all about the showmanship, but when it comes down to following through on his promises, he is nowhere to be found. This is not reality television anymore. For the thousands of American workers whose livelihoods are on the line, this is reality, and Trump has let them down.”

CNBC: Trump's Carrier deal is not living up to the hype — jobs still going to Mexico

“More than 600 employees at a Carrier plant in Indianapolis are bracing for layoffs beginning next month, despite being told by President Trump that nearly all the jobs at the plant had been saved. The deal, announced with great fanfare before Trump took office, was billed not only as a heroic move to keep jobs from going to Mexico but also as a seismic shift in the economic development landscape.”

Post and Courier: Layoffs announced for first time at Boeing's 787 Dreamliner campus, other North Charleston operations

“The layoffs also are occurring just a few months after President Donald Trump visited the Dreamliner assembly plant to tout his plans ‘to unleash the power of the American spirit, and to put our great people back to work.’ Trump's visit coincided with the debut of Boeing's 787-10 Dreamliner, which is built exclusively at the North Charleston campus.”
