DNC Statement on Arab American Heritage Month

In celebration of Arab American Heritage Month, DNC Chair Jaime Harrison released the following statement:

“The Arab American community embodies what it means to live the American dream. From countries all across the Middle East and North Africa, with roots in multiple faiths and traditions, Arab immigrants come to the United States with a sense of determination, hard work, and perseverance. Their ambitions and dreams are woven into the American story and inspire those who are touched by their countless contributions. From teachers to public servants to entrepreneurs, Arab Americans are fundamental in our mission of building a stronger, more united nation. The Arab American story is infused with hope, courage, and strength. Even in the darkest of times, Arab Americans have persevered and found the light. Their story is an American story.

“As we honor and celebrate Arab American Heritage Month, we recognize that many Arab American families are experiencing the heartbreaking losses of loved ones in Gaza, concern for the health and safety of family in other countries across the Middle East, or encountering discrimination, hate and intolerance here at home. President Biden will continue to work tirelessly to respond to the urgent humanitarian crisis, and deliver desperately needed aid to Gaza given the dire humanitarian conditions, and to free the hostages, including Americans, who are being held in captivity. We echo President Biden’s commitment to an immediate ceasefire that would last at least six weeks as part of a hostage deal, and build into a more enduring peace.

“Today and every day, we reaffirm our commitment to working together to create a future of peace and justice across the globe, and vow to advance the security and equity of Arab Americans. We are determined to fulfill the promise of an America where all people can live in safety and with dignity.”
