DNC Statement on Black Women’s Equal Pay Day

DNC Chair Ken Martin and DNC Vice Chair Reyna Walters-Morgan released the following statement to recognize Black Women’s Equal Pay Day:

“On Black Women’s Equal Pay Day, we must highlight the gender and racial pay gaps that especially affect Black women in today’s workforce. Despite the decades of work done by community leaders to close the gap, Black women working full-time, year-round, are paid only 66 cents for every dollar earned by their white male counterparts. The injustice Black women face in the workforce is not limited to their pay: their hard work too often goes unnoticed, and they endure higher rates of workplace discrimination from a lack of leadership representation and biases in the hiring process.

“Donald Trump and Republicans are only making it worse for Black women in America. From decreasing education access to ripping away health care, it’s clear that Trump is not working in the interest of Black women. Democrats are committed to stopping the reckless actions of Trump and Republicans that disproportionately harm Black women and Black communities. It’s time to recognize equal pay for equal work regardless of gender or race.”
